What is digitale pedagogie?

What is digital pedagogy?

Pedagogy is essentially a critical thinking exercise directed at learning and teaching. Pedagogy asks us to never teach by rote: never assume the use of a podium, or an overhead projector, or desks situated in rows, or a chalkboard, or walls.

What is Digital Pedagogy?

When defining this concept it is important to break it up and firstly define the different meanings of the two words which make up this fairly new concept.

Digital is related to the use of technology and computers, and how it can be used at any time and any where in the world. "Digit" means finger, so digital could literally be interpreted as meaning "at your fingertips". So, in essence, with the digital world information is at your fingertips.
While pedagogy is the "art of teaching", and according to Mark K Smith, it is "the process of accompanying learners; caring for and about them; and bringing learning into life" [http://infed.org/mobi/what-is-pedagogy/].
Therefore, Digital Pedagogy is the art of teaching through the digital world - via computers, mobile phones, tablets and the like. It is the incorporation of concepts such as the "flipped classroom", where learners watch clips online, basically teaching themselves beforehand. The learners then come to the class already having prepared questions for the teacher, leaving more time for one-on-one conversation and discussion in class. This is a creative way to get the learners and teacher to communicate and collaborate with one another.

In theory, this concept could take over the world and evolve teaching to new, very interesting heights. It could enhance education to that of a University level, and create free critical thinkers while the adolescent brain is still developing. The effects could be amazing. However, in practice, will this concept really work out? Do learners have the required discipline to not let the digital distract the pedagogy? Only time will tell.

What is digital pedagogy?

In answering this question it may be helpful to firstly summarize what constitutes pedagogy. In short it is the art of teaching. In order to be a pedagogue, I believe one must acknowledge teaching as an art, and strive to do one's own teaching in an artistic fashion. Without discussing what art is, which I do not at all feel I am capable of doing succinctly, we can consider how one would then practice digital pedagogy in a limited capacity.

I would try and approach it as an extension or new field to experiment in. That is, to embrace technology to take one's teaching to another level. One could say you use technology to make your teaching better, but I would argue that one rather uses technology to explore new avenues, methods or approaches. This is a critical branch-out since high school students learn in such disparate ways.

What is Digital Pedagogy?

Digital Pedagogy is the combination of electronic elements with the art of teaching in an attempt to enhance or change the experience of teaching and learning.
It is not considered Digital Pedagogy if an electronic element is used but it is not actually creating a change in the learning environment.

Examples of Digital Pedagogy include something as simple as a powerpoint presentation to the concept of a 'flipped classroom' and making your students do blogging assignments (I see what you did there..).

What is digital Pedagogy?

Pedagogy is the method of teaching or how best information can be transferred to the learner in order for the learner to learn. Digital in this concept refers to electrical elements or appliances.

So Digital Pedagogy is the use of electrical appliances to enhance education and help learner to optimal learning.

What is Digital Pedagogy?

Digital Pedagogy is an emerging practice in the world of teaching today; whereby education is enhanced by the involvement of electronic or digital tools.

This form of teaching or philosophy towards teaching is comparatively extremely modern; and relies a lot on the advancements of the Internet made in recent years; plus the multiple ways in which the Internet can now be accessed by students.

Digital Pedagogy in pratice can involve many Web 2.0 sites; including most social media sites.

What is digital pedagogy?

Digital pedagogy is when technology (the use of audio and visuals) to enhance the learning experience. This method of teaching moves away from the traditional chalk and black board method into techniques that make use of PowerPoint presentations, videos, podcasts and a data projector to name a few.

The use of digital pedagogy in the classroom has the benefit of engaging a lot better with the learners with technology that they understand; and also make the lessons more interesting and fun to learn. Making use of audio and visuals during the learning experience has showed that it significantly increases the focus and attention of learners- which is also one of the main benefits of digital pedagogy.

What is digital pedagogy

Pedagogy means to lead a child. Thus digital pedagogy entails the use of technology to facilitate learning.

What is Digital Pedagogy

Digital Pedagogy is not about using digital technologies for teaching but rather about approaching those tools from a pedagogy perspective. So it is as much about using digital tools as it is about deciding when not to use these tools, and about paying attention to the impact of digital tools on learning #45810 #digitalpedagogy

Digital pedagogy completes the toolkit for the theatre of education

Digital pedagogy is the foremost tool of education in the present age. It transforms domains of education. Walls used to keep knowledge inside, removed from the “world out there”. Desks were sites of seated learning. Chalkboards used to be sites of centralized teaching. Fingers were for holding pens and getting the attention of the teacher.
Digital pedagogy changed these sites. While the classroom remains part of the theatre of education, walls become screens for projection. Desks now face one another and writing boards have become a shared domain. Fingers tap keyboards and touchscreens and communicate far further than only with the teacher.
Digital pedagogy fills the stage in the theatre of education with all sorts of electronic tools. Collaborating with tried and trusted teaching tools, digital pedagogy completes the teaching toolkit to ensure actual learning takes place in the present age. Through digital pedagogy, education is equipped for the current era and everyone’s invited.

Digital Pedagogy viz a viz Hybrid Classrooms?

"The future of our classrooms is bright if we can carefully blend innovation with sound principles of education, rather than let one replace the other."  http://theconversation.com/explainer-what-is-the-hybrid-classroom-and-is-it-the-future-of-education-37611

Starting a Journey of Digital Pedagogy

"education either functions as an instrument which is used to facilitate integration of the younger generation into the logic of the present system and bring about conformity or it becomes the practice of freedom, the means by which men and women deal critically and creatively with reality and discover how to participate in the transformation of their world"      -- Paulo Freire
Experimenting with education, live, is one of the scariest, most exciting and crazily exhilarating rides I've thrown myself into. Incredibly scary when you consider that I've taken just under 200 teaching students into the deep end with me. Wildly exciting when you realise that we are running where others fear to tread – and doing so while looking everywhere at once. Add to that the insane exhilaration of flipping your university classroom for the first time, and you've got one heck of a rush.

This blog forms part of the class experiment. I hope that it will become one of the main supporting structures of our multimodal class...-room space. The collaborative hub of it all, if you will.

One way to find out!
 Let's go!
